Morristown

Some Of The Best Fishing In The Area

One of the attractions for visitors to the Thousand Islands area is fishing, and the small community of Morristown boasts some of the best fishing in the area. Because of its prime location on the water, all types of game fish reside in the area, including largemouth and smallmouth bass, northern pike, walleye, muskie, crappie, perch, bluegill, channel cats, bullhead, and carp.

But there are more reasons to visit Morristown than the fishing. Another of the fascinating aspects of Morristown is its history. One of the first battles of the War of 1812 was fought in the water near Morristown. The city itself is named for Gouverneur Morris, an original signer of the Declaration of Independence.

History buffs can also visit the town’s museum as well as other historical sites, including a stone school house built in 1824 and the only windmill on the American side of the St. Lawrence River. Seven buildings in Morristown are listed on the National Register of Historic Sites.
